Despite his amnesia, he's never lost the gift given to him by J'onn J'onzz, the Martian Manhunter, safeguards against his mind being overtaken. The amnesia hasn't taken away his own mental workings, the Kryptonian meditation techniques and the careful maintenance he's maintained over the years to keep things in order. But even then, Ren is skilled. He might get a glimpse of what's there...
And it's more than a little like trying to walk through a bustling superhighway, each car a letter in the word of a sentence as part of an idea. His senses require an inordinate amount of processing, and the speed at which his mind functions is requires even more than that. But for all that, for all the strangeness, there's no malice and no deception there, at least not directed at Ren.
He's just concerned. For Ren, as a matter of fact. And he'd like to know what's got him so quick to turn away.
"Got a lot of toddlers at home?" He shakes his head. "I don't think I ever had siblings, but I would have liked some. " A shrug. "I can see the advantages to being an only child, though. The grass is always greener."
