Sarah is also talented, though her talents run more toward photography than drawing. She does that too! They could maybe do local art projects or something? A thought. They could totally have met in art class and bonded there! They would have had... two? High school years in common, and Sarah probably took more advanced classes.

Clary draws and paints and is specifically really good at those two things in canon. The can definately do art protects together! Also meeting in art classes because Clary's totally be saving up to take extra and advance classes whenever she can. I'm not sure about high school years in common. Mostly because highschool is weird and the years are weird. I used to tutuor, forever ago. But since Clary is trying to take extra classes in art they've probably seen each other around.
