sparkplugs: (don't you know my name?)
As Cy is psychic and tends to casually bring up things she picks up on in conversation it would be super useful if you could please consider answering these questions for me! If you would like to opt out of her completely then you can also use this post to let me know. Thank you.

Do you mind Cy reading your character's mind?
Is there any reason she wouldn't be able to read their mind?
Is there anything you DO want her to pick up on?
Is there anything you DON'T want her to pick up on?

How hard should I avoid the topic of animal experimentation?
(CWs will be applied at minimum no matter how you answered and I will avoid this subject as much as possible.)

The form mostly has questions relevant to mind reading, but here is a hopefully helpful explanation of her powers in full.

Mind Reading:

Cy tends to pick up on background information, random thoughts, sometimes even information relating to the person/animal they don't know themselves. For her it comes as easy as hearing spoken words and she doesn't quite realise this isn't the norm for everyone. If there's a block she probably could push through it if she wanted to so long as it wasn't too strong, but for the most part she wouldn't be likely to bother with this. What she does mention is usually vague and often indecipherable to those who don't know what she's referring to.

As far as others with psychic abilities they would be able to read Cy's mind too, or even see through her eyes if they had that ability. She can put up a block if she puts on the effort, but how effective this is would depend on how strong the mind reader is and would exert her. She wouldn't be likely to do this unless she feels threatened as mind riding is something that feels natural to her.

Mind Control:

I wouldn't do anything relating to this without discussing with the player in advance. This is used in canon to induce sleep, and I don't think she would be likely to use it for much else. Perhaps to stop someone doing something she doesn't want them to, but she would struggle if she wasn't already calm.

Dream Walking:

Again, I wouldn't do this without discussing this with the player. She can walk in the dreams of others as well as manipulate them. As far as it's shown she can only manipulate what is already there, but she can change the tone and outcome.

Creation:

Cy creates strange lights at times. Moths, birds, etc... at others.

Mediumship:

Ghosts are drawn to Cy. They become visible to those without any innate ability to do so when they're interacting with her.

Wild Road Morphing:

This is unlikely to come up in game, but here it is anyway. In Cy's canon there are special roads called highways that are used by animals as shortcuts. They can't be used by humans, and if a human tries to get around this it can cause great damage to them. The roads are maintained by use and will start to fade if they fall out of it. Older roads that survive change the forms of the user into something bigger. Cy herself resembles a snow leopard on these roads. After leaving the highway she may retain this form momentarily, but she will quickly return to her usual tabby self.

CW: There are mentions of animal experimentation and peril in this app. I have done my best to minimise them, but they are still present.

CHARACTER INFO

Name: Cy
Canon: The Wild Road
Canon Point: Chapter VI
Age: Young Adult
Species: Cat

History:

At one time Cy was an experiment of the Alchemist, a centuries old human who terrorises cats with the goal of becoming more like them. By accident or design she eventually escaped, leading to her rescue by Tag who is on a quest to find the king and queen of cats. As Tag is unwell when he saves her they are stuck among a colony of strays for a time until he recovers enough they can set off again in the company of two other cats. Unfortunately Cy is more of a detriment than a help and has to be saved yet again when she almost drowns in a building site. She becomes unwell herself at this point, actually seeming to be dead to the other cats. She is not, don't worry. She still has many more problems to cause.

Personality:

✽ What is your character's main motivation? What drives them and keeps them going?

Her lack of attention span means she often seems to lack motivation. She will jump from one thing to the next, largely appearing to just be tagging along with whoever's around her. That said, she does do her best to look after those around her even if it doesn't always appear that way.

✽ What is their biggest regret? Why?

Cy does not do regrets. YOLO. Or... nine times? If she were more self aware she would probably regret that she poses so much danger to her friends, both through her presence and poorly thought out actions. Unfortunately this is not the case and she is prone to repeating her mistakes.

✽ What is their worst fear? Their greatest comfort?

She fears the Alchemist above all else. She is free now, but still very traumatised by the time she spent as his experiment. Her greatest comfort is Tag. He is not as patient with her as some of the other cats, but she was instantly drawn to him and is very fond of him in a way he's yet to comprehend.

✽ Top three strengths?

  • Enduring

Cy has strong perseverance. No matter the situation she'll get through, often with a cheer that belies the dangers. She's not immune to fear, but she is brave. Even when panicked she may try and do something to help if she can get herself together enough. She's been through a lot, and she has the capability to get through a lot more.

  • Dedicated

She's a loyal cat, and once she's decided she likes someone that will not waver. She'll stick to them like glue, whether they want her to or not. Her presence throughout the first novel comes largely from her refusal to leave Tag alone once he drags her out of the road he first sees her in.

  • Affectionate

She is friendly and cheerful, and while she may make snap judgements that are negative she is easy to turn around. She loves to play games, and will try to engage those around her if she can. She is generous in her way, always trying to give "gifts" to the animals that she likes.

✽ Top three weaknesses?

  • Shortsighted

Cy is frequently mistaken for a kitten thanks to both her size and mannerisms. She doesn't understand how to take care of herself the way most would, and it's in no small part thanks to luck and the care of others she's made it as far as she has. She thinks short-term, and doesn't understand dangers most would learn after a point. She plays in roads, eats objects that are absolutely inedible, and speaks without thinking. It's got her in trouble on more than one occasion, but she shows no sign of changing her ways.

  • Blunt

Though many of the things she says are nonsensical there are times when her speech is insulting and potentially offensive. She tells the fox Loves A Dustbin he smells on more than one occasion, once when she's just met him and another time when he's extremely distrustful of her already. Even so, she is defensive of remarks against herself and easily upset by hurtful comments.

  • Capricious

She is a fickle creature whose mood is as erratic as her actions seem to be. She can be difficult to predict, and while she might follow someone as close as a shadow she could very well turn and box them for doing the same thing to her. She has a set idea of how she wants things and if they don't go the way she likes then she gets very unhappy.

✽ What was their last lie?

Cy is in theory a very honest creature. Her problems lies more in that the way she speaks makes it difficult for her to be understood or to even understand herself at times. Her very nature is deceptive though. She is described as a proxy of the Alchemist by Loves A Dustbin and is used to track down Tag and the other heroes so that he may capture the king and queen.

Inventory: Only her spark plug. She may lose this if I ever update.

Abilities:

Cy is shown to be psychic throughout canon and has a range of abilities. Her spark plug does appear to enhance them, but even after she loses it she is still able to use them just as well as she ever could. She can read the inner thoughts of others and is surprised when she later learns this isn't normal. Sometimes she even picks up on things that others don't know about themselves, such as seeming to be aware of Tag's true name and role and and giving him multiple nicknames that allude to it. She has no way to control this and is just as susceptible to having her mind invaded in turn. She can be hurt or overwhelmed by this happening.

She is a magnet for certain types of creatures, at times actively summoning them, at others drawing them to her more passively. She favours moths and butterflies much of the time she chooses to do this, but she is capable of summoning other things if she wishes. Benign ghosts seem to favour her, and become visible to those without her powers in her presence. Her spark plug elevates this and allows her to be tracked by more sinister creatures too.

Cy can banish the things she draws to her, but it will exhaust her to do so if they are combative. If she is not fought then it is easier for her to exert control over others. She is shown to be able to make others sleep, or enter and manipulate their dreams like it's second nature to her.

As well as being able to attract already existing things, she can also create. This is apparently an ability that many cats can master, though not all of them are comfortable with it or even aware of it. It may be that it is more innate in some cats compared to others and Cy hasn't had to learn the way some might. She has been shown to make her favoured small insects, as well as colourful birds at time. Specks of light are another of her motifs.

One thing she can do that is common among domesticated cats and even other animals is access special highways that stem from an ancient magic. These roads act as shortcuts or paths to otherwise inaccessible areas and are kept active through use. Smaller or lesser used paths will close up eventually, but cats may start new ones. Larger, older highways induce a transformation that brings them closer to their more primal roots. In Cy's case she resembles a snow leopard. This shape lingers for only seconds once they leave. As these are a place in her own world she will not be able to do this in game, but it's a cool ability so I'm still including it.
